+CES
Our breakthrough technology is a semi-active suspension with an extremely fast reaction time to control both the wheel and body of the car, improving comfort and handling. In the end, that means improving safety. Demand for CES continues to grow with the technology recently launched on the BMW X3.

More on CES
Continuously Controlled Electronic Suspension (CES) has been in production since 2003 when it was first commercialized for Volvo. At the heart of the system is an advanced valve system that was developed with Öhlins, plus a unique set of hydraulic tuning elements and algorithms developed by Tenneco. The semi-active suspension system continuously adjusts damping levels according to road and driving conditions. This technology has helped Tenneco become a market leader by differentiating us as a technology partner. By the end of 2010, we were in production on 30 different vehicle models with multiple customers, including Volvo, Audi, Ford Europe, Mercedes, AMG, Volkswagen and BMW. By the end of 2011, we expect to be in production on 36 models.
We continue to innovate based on our customers’ needs, including finding new ways to reduce the weight and cost of the technology.
+Aftermarket Technology
The ability to leverage our advanced OE technologies means our aftermarket customers around the globe have access to quality products that provide the latest capabilities in emission control and vehicle handling, comfort and safety. Our extensive product coverage ensures parts are available for a wide range of older and newer vehicles.
More on Aftermarket Technology
In Europe, some examples of technology transfer from the original equipment (OE) business are found in more sophisticated aftermarket products, such as Diesel Particulate Filters. But high-tech manufacturing capabilities also contribute to everyday products, like springs. Taking advantage of Tenneco's OE manufacturing expertise, we produce springs for particular vehicles to duplicate the original handling and "feel." In addition, we leverage our internal manufacturing capabilities to expand product offerings to supply parts for vehicles made by a wide range of manufacturers.
North American examples of technology transfer from the OE side exist in both ride control and emission control products. The OE Spectrum two-valve strut/shock absorber replacement part for foreign nameplate vehicles provides superior performance and broad coverage. The aftermarket has also introduced a replacement stainless steel muffler, the Quiet-Flow® SS, which provides long-life and the same fit and performance as the original.

More on T.R.U.E.-Clean®
T.R.U.E.-Clean® active thermal management provides highly efficient regeneration of the diesel particulate filter (DPF) by introducing heat into the exhaust stream when needed to maintain the required temperature for regeneration, without impacting the engine operating condition. This capability is essential for low temperature environments and low duty-cycle vehicles. The technology also does not require platinum group metals (PGMs) and can displace the diesel oxidation catalyst, eliminating PGMs and their associated price volatility. Accordingly, T.R.U.E.-Clean® is an ideal solution for emerging markets as it withstands high sulfur fuels. It is also well suited for on-road and off-road vehicles that experience high idle time and stop-and-go usage, such as buses, refuse, emergency and delivery vehicles.
Our active thermal management product is differentiated from the competition by its Smartfire ion-sensing combustion control technology. This closed loop feedback system continuously monitors the flame to adjust the amount of fuel and air used and to protect the integrity of the DPF, helping to avoid high cost maintenance issues, while having only a minimal impact on fuel consumption. Our technology provides unmatched reliability and responsiveness with an almost instantaneous (0.2 seconds) response time to transient conditions.
