Tenneco Automotive Inc. (ticker: TEN, exchange: New York Stock Exchange) News Release - Tuesday, March 5, 2002

TENNECO AUTOMOTIVE RECEIVES 2002 PACE AWARD HONORABLE MENTION FOR GRIPPER™ STABILIZER SYSTEM

LAKE FOREST, ILLINOIS, MARCH 5, 2002 – Tenneco Automotive (NYSE: TEN) has earned an honorable mention in the 2002 Automotive News PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers’ Contributions to Excellence) Awards for its gripper stabilizer bar system. The award, sponsored by Automotive News and Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, LLP, recognizes excellence and innovation in the automotive supply industry. Winners were announced yesterday at the eighth-annual awards ceremony.

"We’re very pleased to once again receive a PACE Award," said Mark P. Frissora, chairman and CEO, Tenneco Automotive. "The innovative Gripper™ technology has set a new industry standard for stabilizer bar applications, and provides our customers a cost-effective solution for significantly improving vehicle handling."

The 2002 honorable mention award follows last year’s recognition of Tenneco Automotive’s innovative ASD shock absorber technology, which won the 2001 PACE Award.

Tenneco Automotive’s Gripper™ stabilizer bar system combines a pressurized elastomeric, mechanically bonded bushing with a multi-bend stabilizer bar that provides improved ride and handling. The Gripper™ allows full suspension movement while preventing slippage among the stabilizer bar, bushing assembly and brackets. The result is more responsive steering, increased roll stiffness and improved overall vehicle noise, vibration and harshness characteristics compared to conventional technologies.

Tenneco Automotive is a $3.4 billion manufacturing company with headquarters in Lake Forest, Ill., and 21,600 employees worldwide. Tenneco Automotive is one of the world's largest producers and marketers of ride control and exhaust systems and products, which are sold under the Monroe® and Walker® global brand names. Among its products are Sensa-Trac® and Reflex™ shocks and struts, Rancho® shock absorbers, Walker® Quiet-Flow™ mufflers and DynoMax™ performance exhaust products, and Monroe® Clevite™ vibration control components.
