Company to showcase innovative NOx abatement, thermal management and CO2 reduction solutions: Hall 16, Stand C11

Lake Forest, Illinois, August 29, 2012 –Tenneco Inc. (NYSE:TEN) will highlight its complete suite of advanced commercial vehicle emission control after-treatment solutions and lightweight and electronic suspension technologies at the IAA Truck Show in Hanover, Germany, September 20-27, 2012.
In addition to its portfolio of advanced technologies to meet stringent Euro VI and Tier 4 final emissions legislation in Europe and North America, Tenneco will show innovative, cost-effective exhaust after-treatment solutions developed for emerging markets.
Tenneco delivers advanced emission control and ride control technologies for commercial vehicle customers to enable them to meet stringent emissions regulations while minimizing operating costs and optimizing vehicle comfort, performance and life. The company’s solutions are customized to meet the diverse needs of commercial vehicle customers worldwide.
Tenneco’s advanced design and application engineers leverage technology expertise developed in the company’s global R&D network to meet the requirements of local markets in terms of emissions legislation, product configuration, road conditions, industrialization and cost.
Located in Hall 16, Stand C11, Tenneco will exhibit these and other advanced technologies:
Emission Control
XNOx Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) combines Tenneco’s expertise in calibrating urea dosing systems with top-performing components such as the company’s XNOx injector to deliver an optimized solution with more than 95 percent NOx conversion efficiency.
XNOxAir Assisted Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is a system developed for emerging markets. The XNOx air assisted SCR system is compliant with Euro V and provides an economical alternative to traditional SCR. Featuring a compact and integrated tank, controller and pump assembly, this innovative technology meters the right balance of air and urea together to produce an atomized spray that minimizes deposit formation. The intelligent design can be readily adapted to the existing muffler box space to drive down cost and facilitate integration onto the vehicle.
Hydrocarbon Lean NOx Catalyst System (HC LNC) is an innovative NOx abatement technology that provides engine and vehicle manufacturers with a unique alternative to urea SCR. The HC LNC system features a proprietary silver-based alumina catalyst, developed in conjunction with industry leading partners GE and Umicore, which uses fuel-based reductants, including diesel fuel and bio-renewable fuels like E-85, to reduce NOx.
Thermal Response Unit for Exhaust -T.R.U.E.-Clean® provides diesel particulate filter regeneration under any conditions with reduced fuel penalty and improved backpressure engine performance, particularly with cold-duty cycles in city traffic. T.R.U.E-Clean offers active regenerating capabilities and features unique flame stability control due to ion sensing. The thermal regeneration technology continuously monitors the diesel particulate filter’s temperature and soot levels and automatically initiates the regeneration process when necessary while maintaining proper temperatures and controls until the regeneration cycle is complete.
Diesel Fuel Vaporizer is an external-dosing solution that provides efficient diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration. The vaporizer uses an electrically-heated glow plug to heat and evaporate diesel fuel before introducing it directly into the exhaust stream upstream of the DOC.  Because the hydrocarbon injection enables DPF regeneration without oil dilution, the vaporizer helps improve fuel economy compared to engine post-injection, helping contribute to a reduction in CO2 emissions. Its proprietary design works to virtually eliminate clogging and provides excellent diesel vapor distribution and low backpressure.
Modular Manifold. Tenneco’s fabricated manifold systems include singlewall manifolds and double-wall air gap insulated manifolds, which meet the most challenging commercial vehicle requirements in terms of emissions reduction, weight, cost, durability and packaging when compared to cast manifolds.
Exhaust Heat Recovery is an efficient way of recovering energy from exhaust gases. In most of today’s vehicles only about one third of the energy contained in the fuel is used for propulsion, the rest is lost as heat, half of it through the exhaust system. Tenneco’s  latest advances in exhaust heat recovery technologies, in cooperation with its development partners, include thermo-electric generators and Rankine systems for powering electrical accessories, recharging batteries and supporting vehicle propulsion without reducing engine performance.
Ride Control & Elastomers
Continuously Controlled Electronic Axle Suspensions (CES)* isa semi-active suspension system that  improves driving safety, ensures freight integrity and reduces tyre wear. The system continuously adjusts shock absorber damping levels to road conditions and vehicle dynamics like speed, turning, cornering and driver inputs. Tenneco has a suite of technologies in production or development that can be tailored to meet customer-specific needs.
45mm Axle Damper isused primarily as a rear axle damper for vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) greater than 15 tons and on trailers. The new valve system provides increased tunability and allows higher compression damping force while maintaining the lifetime performance typical of Tenneco dampers. 35mm Axle Damper is generally used as a front damper for vehicles with a GVW between six and 15 tons.
Integrated Front Suspension (IFS) integrates an air spring on 45mm axle dampers to offer higher driving comfort, more free space for the vehicle, improved roll stability and increased cost effectiveness.
Kinetic technology offers incomparable performance both on- and off-road. It allows a significant increase in wheel articulation while maintaining traction on all wheels to enable a vehicle to operate in the most extreme off-road environments.
DriV for Cabin Dampers. Tenneco’s commercial vehicle cabin dampers can be fitted with electronic DRiV™ valve technology, an affordable adjustable technology with no dedicated electronic control unit (ECU) and an internal valve with the electronics integrated into the damper.
Cabin Suspension systems includecoil cab dampers, air cab dampers, lateral cab dampers and seat dampers.  Coil Spring over Shock (CSOS) and Air Spring over Shock (ASOS) cab suspensions differ in terms of the natural frequency of the mass-spring system.. Lateral Dampers provide high damping at low piston speeds to keep the swing movements of the cab under control. Adjustable Seat Dampers work on very low piston speeds and allow the driver to change the damping level from soft to hard.
Integrated Height Valve (IHV) is an internal valve within the air spring damper module for cabin leveling which reduces mounting problems and assembly time and cost. This modular solution can be adapted to any customer need and doesn’t require any additional external links or connections.
Aluminium Seat Dampers. Tenneco products leverage lightweight materials including aluminum, plastic and high strength steel combined with innovative designs to reduce component weight in order to increase transported freight
Clevite® Elastomer products for commercial vehicles include mechanically bonded bushings, hydroelastic bushings and engine mounts, subassemblies and Lightweight Torque Rods. These consist of a tube eye and solid spacer, joined with an upset-resistance weld and finished via metal inert gas (MIG) weld. The expanded-end joint offers better tensile strength versus other types and at significant weight savings.
