TENNECO OPENS NEW EMISSIONS CONTROL PLANT IN ST. PETERSBURG
Company Expands Operations in Russia with Second Facility
ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA, September 10, 2007 – Tenneco Inc. (NYSE: TEN) announced today the opening of its second manufacturing facility in Russia, located in St. Petersburg. This facility will be St. Petersburg’s first emissions control manufacturing plant for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Initially, the 5,000-square-meter facility will supply exhaust systems for Ford Motor Company. However, as more OEMs establish production facilities in St. Petersburg and elsewhere in Russia, the company hopes to win additional business and grow the size and capacity of the new plant.
"One of our key growth strategies is to be well-positioned to serve customers in growing markets like Russia, where we have steadily built a strong presence," said Gregg Sherrill, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Tenneco. "Tenneco’s new St. Petersburg plant enhances our capabilities to capture new business in this expanding market."
Tenneco was an early entrant to the Russian automotive market when it launched its aftermarket operation in 1996. In 2003, the company opened its first manufacturing facility in Togliatti, in Russia’s Samara Region, to produce exhaust systems and catalytic converters for Ford Motor Company and GM-AvtoVAZ.
The St. Petersburg plant marks Tenneco’s seventh manufacturing facility in the region including Central/Eastern Europe and Russia, a key growth area for the company. "As we expand in developing markets like Russia, we are leveraging Tenneco’s regional knowledge and local management backed by the company’s global resources and engineering capabilities," said Hari Nair, Executive Vice President and President, International, Tenneco. "We look forward to bringing our state-of-the-art emissions control technologies to our Russia-based customers."
Tenneco is a $4.7 billion manufacturing company with headquarters in Lake Forest, Illinois and approximately 19,000 employees worldwide. Tenneco is one of the world’s largest designers, manufacturers and marketers of emission control and ride control products and systems for the automotive original equipment market and the aftermarket. Tenneco markets its products principally under the Monroe®, Walker®, Gillet™ and Clevite®Elastomer brand names.
