A Letter From Brian Kesseler – The Events in Washington D.C.

January 6, 2021

A Letter To Our Global Team Members:

Team Tenneco:

Wednesday afternoon in the U.S., the elected leaders of the federal government gathered in Washington, D.C. to formally ratify the election of the next President of the United States.

What should have been a simple ceremony to acknowledge the results of the recent election, ultimately turned into an appalling and senseless display of violence and destruction as a mob of protestors stormed the U.S. Capitol building and brazenly disrupted America’s democracy at work.

As you come to work today, I suspect that the events in Washington will be a topic of conversation among team members around the world.  Regardless of where your beliefs fall on the political spectrum, I hope you will agree with me that there is no place for Wednesday’s events in a civilized society.

At Tenneco, we value inclusion and diversity throughout our business – particularly diversity of thought.  We encourage every team member to thoughtfully, and respectfully, express their views and ideas and expect that they are listened to in the same manner.  This underpins a belief that when all voices are heard we have the best opportunity to make tomorrow better.

Success, whether it is here at Tenneco, or in the governments of the countries we live in, is dependent upon people’s ability to constructively work together – as One Team – and respect one another even when their views may be different than our own.  It is only if we do that, that we will be able to get to the best solutions to accomplish common goals.

Please continue to respect each other, and each other’s views, and remain safe and healthy.

Brian Kesseler
