Tenneco Automotive Wins Toyota Supplier Awards

March 16, 2004

Company Recognized for Successful Lexus Launch

LAKE FOREST, ILLINOIS, MARCH 16, 2004 - Tenneco Automotive (NYSE: TEN) earned for the first time two of Toyota's highly coveted supplier awards for meeting Toyota's highest standards in quality, delivery and value improvement. The company recently received the Excellence Level Award in Value Improvement for overall support to Toyota in delivering value-added programs and support, and an Excellence Level Award for the launch of the exhaust system on the 2004 Lexus RX 330 Sports Utility Vehicle by the Tenneco Automotive facility in Cambridge, Ontario.

"We are honored to receive this recognition and very proud of our performance in serving Toyota and meeting the high standards required on the Lexus RX 330 launch," said Mark P. Frissora, chairman and CEO, Tenneco Automotive. "We are committed to strengthening our customer relationships by delivering high quality products, value-added design and manufacturing capabilities and the most advanced ride and emission control technologies."

Tenneco Automotive's Cambridge, Ontario facility and Futaba, the company's Japan-based partner, successfully collaborated with Toyota to identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve performance and spearhead a platform launch that exceeded Toyota's quality targets. Adding to the significance of this achievement, the Lexus RX 330 is the first Lexus vehicle to be manufactured in North America.

Customer perspective drove many of the improvements on the Lexus RX 330 that were recommended and executed by the Cambridge, Ontario-based team. Extensive synchronous engineering activities between team members in the U.S., Canada, and Japan - including benchmarking activities in Japan - were also key to this successful launch.

Tenneco Automotive is a $3.8 billion manufacturing company with headquarters in Lake Forest, Illinois and approximately 19,200 employees worldwide. Tenneco Automotive is one of the world's largest producers and marketers of ride control and exhaust systems and products, which are sold under the Monroe® and Walker® global brand names. Among its products are Sensa-Trac® and Monroe Reflex® shocks and struts, Rancho® shock absorbers, Walker® Quiet-Flow® mufflers and DynoMax® performance exhaust products, and Monroe® Clevite® vibration control components./p>
