Six Shows Offer an Inside Look at Shock Absorber Technology

LAKE FOREST, ILL., March 30, 2000 - Shock absorbers are an important part of any automotive operation - especially a NASCAR Garage. That point comes to life this Sunday, April 2, as Tenneco Automotive's Monroe® Sensa-Trac® and Reflex® shock absorbers are featured on the NASCAR Garage television show on The Nashville Network (TNN).

The program is the first of six shows about shock absorbers that will air on consecutive Sundays on TNN starting at noon eastern time, with a rebroadcast each night at 11 p.m. eastern time. Viewers should check local listings because times may vary depending on race coverage. The show airs before and after scheduled Winston Cup NASCAR races.

Each of the six programs will tell the story behind the evolution of the modern shock absorber, including a discussion of the new materials and technologies being used today. Other topics will include manufacturing and shock absorber features. Among the highlights are a look at the Impact Sensor Technology used in Monroe's Reflex shock absorbers and the Safe-Tech System offered in Monroe Sensa-Trac shocks.

"We're pleased to be associated with a strong automotive television program like NASCAR Garage," said Harvey Diedrich vice president of marketing/North American aftermarket. "This is an opportunity to really educate people on the engineering and technology that goes into the shock absorber. A lot of innovation has been applied to the shock through the years - this is our chance to show people just how much technical capability is brought to bear in each shock."

In July, 1999 Tenneco Automotive became a manufacturer in the NASCAR officially licensed automotive aftermarket program. Five primary Tenneco Automotive brands - Monroe® SensaTrac® shocks and struts, Monroe® Reflex shock absorber, Walker® Quiet Flow™ mufflers, DynoMax™ performance exhaust products, and Rancho® performance shocks and struts - now display the distinction "Officially Licensed" by NASCAR.

Tenneco Automotive is one of the world's largest producers and marketers of ride control and emission control products and systems, which are sold under the Monroe® and Walker® global brand names. Among its products are Monroe® Reflex® shock absorbers, Sensa-Trac® shocks and struts, Rancho® shock absorbers, Walker® Quiet-Flow™ mufflers and DynoMax™ performance exhaust products, and Monroe® Clevite™ vibration control components.
