LAKE FOREST, ILLINOIS, JULY 1, 2002 - Tenneco Automotive (NYSE: TEN) announced today that the company was added to the Russell 2000 Index as a result of the annual reconstitution of the Frank Russell Company U.S. equity indexes. The Russell 2000 Index is determined by market capitalization and style attributes. The Index is widely used by managers for index funds as well as a benchmark for investment strategies.

Annual reconstitution of the Russell indexes captures the 3,000 largest U.S. stocks as of the end of May, ranking them by total market capitalization and style attributes to create the Russell 3000. The largest 1,000 companies in the ranking comprise the Russell 1000 Index while the remaining 2,000 companies become the widely used Russell 2000 Index. Approximately $250 billion is currently invested in index funds comprised of equity securities issued by companies listed in Russell’s indexes.
