Tenneco Automotive Takes Action Against Counterfeiting At AAPEX Trade Show

Company Finds Four Companies Counterfeiting Its Clevite Elastomers, Harris Bushings

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, November 6, 2003 - Tenneco Automotive (NYSE: TEN) announced today that the company, working with AAPEX trade show officials, successfully stopped four companies from continuing to display counterfeited Tenneco Automotive elastomer products at the show. The counterfeit products - bushings sold in the replacement parts market-infringe Tenneco Automotive's rights in the well-known Clevite® Elastomers and Harris™ brands.

"Increasingly, we are seeing evidence of counterfeiting products in the aftermarket across a broad spectrum of products lines," said Timothy Donovan, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Tenneco Automotive. "We felt that it was necessary to take an immediate step to begin addressing this problem. We are committed to protecting the trademarks of our strong brands such as the Clevite Elastomers brand, which is valued in our industry and represents very high standards in terms of quality and innovation. We will continue to investigate and stamp out counterfeiting in the marketplace and will take legal action where appropriate against unauthorized use of our property and trading on our good name and goodwill."

Tenneco Automotive took the action against the following companies with booths at the show:

  • Hill/Progressive Gear Industries, Delhi, India
  • Keystone Company Ltd., Shihueng-City, South Korea
  • Sheng Mhau, Taiping Taichung Hsien, Taiwan
  • Altezza Company Ltd., Taipei, Taiwan

These companies were displaying counterfeit bushings with the Clevite Elastomers and/or Harris brand names, as well as Tenneco Automotive's part numbers and Rubber Manufacturers Association codes.
