Tenneco Automotive Announces Executive Appointment

LAKE FOREST, ILLINOIS, January 6, 2004 - Tenneco Automotive (NYSE: TEN) announced today that Lois Boyd has been appointed vice president and general manager, commercial vehicle segment and global program management. The appointment is effective immediately.

In her new role, Ms. Boyd will be responsible for the company's growth in the commercial vehicle business. She will direct efforts to leverage Tenneco's global engineering and manufacturing strengths to expand the business with commercial vehicle customers and in new specialty markets.

"The commercial vehicle market is a strategic growth area for Tenneco, driven by new emissions standards and an increasing demand for better vehicle handling and ride comfort. Tenneco currently supplies ride and emissions control products and systems to various commercial vehicle markets including heavy duty truck, off-highway, bus and recreational worldwide. The company is a leader in supplying torque rods for heavy duty applications, cab dampers, and has been first to market with innovative diesel technologies for commercial vehicle applications.

Since 2000, Ms. Boyd has been serving as vice president, global program management. She has played a key role in instituting a more integrated and global approach to the company's original equipment business by implementing new systems and processes and developing global engineering and sales initiatives. She has been instrumental in the success of Tenneco Automotive's Project Genesis, a global restructuring initiative that has generated $30 million in annual savings by improving manufacturing and distribution efficiency worldwide.

Ms. Boyd joined Tenneco Automotive in 1997 as business unit director for the Ford Motor Company business in North America. Subsequently she was named vice president for the Ford business, responsible for all product lines and distribution supporting the customer globally. Ms. Boyd has been in the vehicle industry since 1980. Before joining Tenneco, she held marketing and sales positions with Vickers, Inc., including sales to the heavy duty market and working directly with engine manufacturers.

Ms. Boyd holds a bachelors degree in business management from Oakland University and completed graduate studies at Central Michigan University.

Lois Boyd is on the company's senior management team and will continue to report to Chairman and CEO Mark Frissora. She will remain located at the company's North American original equipment headquarters in Monroe, Michigan.
