Tenneco Showcases Global Clean Air Solutions At Car Management Briefing Seminars

August 2, 2016

Traverse City, Mich., August 2, 2016 –Tenneco (NYSE: TEN) will showcase its innovative Clean Air solutions in a state-of-the-art mobile technology display at the 2016 CAR Management Briefing Seminars, August 1-4, 2016.  The technologies showcased are designed to meet global automakers’ demand for Clean Air products that reduce emissions, contribute to fuel efficiency and improve vehicle performance.

“Emissions standards such as Tier 3 and Euro6c are demanding more advanced aftertreatment technology to meet regulatory requirements,” said Ben Patel, vice president, global research and development, Tenneco Clean Air. “For example, Tenneco’s thermal management solutions for gasoline and diesel powertrains are designed to help our customers meet these new requirements without the need for incremental use of Platinum Group Metals (PGMs).”

Tenneco has a range of advanced Clean Air technologies and products, many of which are in production with customers throughout the world.

Advanced Mixing Technologies. Tenneco’s custom-engineered mixing components ensure consistent mixing of liquid urea and optimized performance of the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) aftertreatment in diesel engine exhaust systems. The company is showcasing its latest family of mixing solutions designed to support SCR-coated diesel particulate filter (SDPF) applications, where SCR catalyst and particulate filtration is combined into one component, responding to the need for lightweight, compact packaging of the vehicle's aftertreatment system.

Gasoline Particulate Filter. Tenneco has leveraged its expertise in diesel particulate filter technology with the development of its gasoline particulate filters (GPF), designed for gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines to reduce particulate emissions. GPFs use the same type of wall-flow substrates as diesel particulate filters and can be included in the exhaust system in addition to the series three-way catalyst, or the catalyst coating can be directly applied to the filter substrate to form a four-way catalyst.

Tailored Muffler. Tenneco’s new tailored muffler design helps customers meet aggressive acoustic performance targets that have been previously unachievable by the limitations of conventional spun or stamped muffler concepts by combining the packaging and volume advantages of a stamped muffler with the conventional muffler stuffing processes. The stamped section in the tailored muffler enables the use of tuning volume under the spare tire tub, while accommodating longer return tubes within the muffler to expand the acoustic tuning options. The muffler design also features Tenneco’s high performance passive valves, which help to manage low-end acoustic issues without restricting backpressure under acceleration.

Close-Coupled Converter.  Tenneco’s close-coupled converter manifold features a compact design, air gap insulated inlet and outlet cone, and is designed to effectively improve thermal management in the exhaust system and provide faster light-off.

High Performance Passive Valve. Tenneco’s high performance passive valve technology is the latest example of the company’s innovative solutions for acoustic tuning, which provides the added lightweighting  benefit of delivering sound quality with the use of smaller muffler boxes.  The valve is the only one available in the market today that reduces muffler volume, weight and  low frequency noise without increasing backpressure at high exhaust flow rates.

Tenneco is an $8.2 billion global manufacturing company with headquarters in Lake Forest, Illinois and approximately 30,000 employees worldwide.  Tenneco is one of the world’s largest designers, manufacturers and marketers of clean air and ride performance products and systems for automotive and commercial vehicle original equipment markets and the aftermarket.  Tenneco’s principal brand names are Monroe®, Walker®, XNOx® and Clevite®Elastomers.
