Technologies for Increased Valvetrain Lifetime
We develop and manufacture high-performance engine valves and valvetrain components—including valve cotters, valve rotators, and spring retainers—for 4-stroke engines powering ships, power plants, and demanding off-road applications such as rail and mining.
Our portfolio includes monometallic, bimetallic, and hollow valve designs with dimensions up to 1,000 mm in length, 38 mm stem diameter, and 180 mm head diameter. Produced from advanced high-alloy materials, these valves are engineered to withstand the extreme pressures, temperatures, corrosion, and mechanical loads of modern engine environments.
Our valve rotators are designed to ensure precise rotation, creating uniform surface contact and preventing deposit formation on the valve seat and seat ring. The result is optimized sealing and extended valve lifetime. To meet the challenges of today’s engines—with higher operating temperatures, pressures, and limited packaging space—we continue to develop innovative rotator designs that deliver reliable performance under the toughest conditions.
We design and manufacture advanced valve seat inserts (VSI) and valve guides (VG) within our Valve Seats and Guides (VSG) product line. Produced using Powder Metal (PM) technology, our solutions support applications up to 65 mm VSI outer diameter and 125 mm VG length, delivering precision and efficiency for modern engine requirements.
Powder Metal is a near-net shape process that provides significant efficiency benefits over casting. With tailored mechanical and tribological properties, our PM-based components offer superior wear resistance, reduced valve temperatures through high thermal conductivity, and intrinsic oil-impregnated porosities that enable continuous lubrication under all operating conditions. These advantages have already been proven across a range of large bore engine applications.
Our material portfolio spans from cost-efficient, lower-alloyed grades to highly advanced alloys featuring copper infiltration, machinability enhancers, solid lubricants, hard phases, and corrosion-resistant properties. Densified materials deliver outstanding mechanical performance for the most demanding environments.
Leveraging PM technology, we also offer dual-layer VSI designs that reduce cost while maximizing performance. The optimized back layer resists plastic deformation under extreme thermal and mechanical loads, while the top layer provides low wear and customized tribological properties matched to the mating valve head material.
